Relief In COVID-19
The Covid-19 pandemic has unimaginably affected social, economic, institutional and governance settings worldwide. It has generated an unparalleled health crisis globally, affecting thousands of people and threatening health systems and services. It has forced over 3 billion people to be locked at home. Covid-19 could put great stress on societies and political systems, thereby creating the potential for violent outbreaks. Early signs of social disorder are already visible. (International Crisis Group – ICG, Report, March 25, 2020). While the adverse and wholesome impact of Covid-19 is yet to be measured, in this entire catastrophic scenario, the poor, vulnerable, low social and income groups, and informal sector are and going to be the worst affected in multitude ways, now and in months to come. Covid-19 is posing a huge health crisis and endemic situation in India. It is affecting the country’s social, economic, services delivery, demand-supply and governance chains and network and crisis management. Livelihood, work, income and security have been disrupted especially for the poor, vulnerable, and people living in rural and remote communities due to a lack of information, resources, and support system. We also distributed oxygen cylinder to the ones who was in need . In these tough times, a lot of basic essential items are getting scarce out of which Food Grains ranks at the top withalmost 36% have stated that it is not available at all. Followed by sanitizer at 20%, which if not available will create health issues and may increase COVID-19 cases as sanitization is the need of the hour. Another challengethat has emerged from this situation is the reverse migration of workers from cities. While the whole physical network, interactions, and engagements have come to a standstill, it is the digital resources, platforms, solutions, and networks that have and can act as a major support mechanism in this crisis. For the vast majority, there arefour sets of issues that requires immediate attention-
Lack of physical and mental health awareness about Covid-19 ,Livelihood and income strains and access to opportunities. Lack of Health resources , Scarcity of food . Therefore we have distributed 15000 dry rations to the needy ones . – Supported Migrants to be back at home safely: In this campaign we have supported migrant workers who arereturning back to their hometown. We have supported 1560 people in return with transportation and food.
Disaster and Rehabilitation
Being a disaster-prone country, India is highly vulnerable to various types of natural calamities due to its geographical positioning. According to the national disaster Management Authority, Govt. of India, more than 58.6% of the country’s landmass is prone to earthquakes and over 12% is prone to floods; close to 5,700kms out of the 7,516kms long coastline is prone to cyclones and tsunamis; while 68% of its cultivable area is prone to droughts which is why disaster preparedness is of utmost importance. EOFO, with its welfare interventions focused on children and their families, responds to the call of humanity in times of such calamities through emergency relief programs. EOFO has acted promptly to reach out and respond to the immediate needs of the disaster-affected people, while also maintaining a sustainable approach to help them rebuild their lives by facilitating initial support. Some of the calamities during whichEOFO have initiated crisis management during a disaster are Fire, Flood, Earthquake, etc.
BEAT THE HUNGER (PROJECT) Feeding
Feeding initiative is deemed important because these are among the efforts done to address the prominent problem of malnutrition, hunger, and food insecurity here in our country. Also, these programs mostly aim to serve underprivileged individuals, especially children. Thus, feeding programs are important to provide care and the basic necessity to those who need them the most. Too many families struggle every day to feed their children – something, anything, let alone a nutritious meal. These families endure immense stress daily.Food security has been a major concern in India. According to UN India, there are nearly 195 million undernourished people in India. According to the 2020 Global Hunger Index, India has been ranked 94 among 107 countries in terms of the severity of hunger. Nutrient deprivation in people decreases immunity making them unlikely to survive diseases that are otherwise treatable Therefore, this project focuses to provide one meal to people who are struggling to have the one-course meal of the day. Currently, we are distributing food to 1500 individuals in Delhi in different slum areas. It focuses more on children whose families are involved in waste picking, balloon sellers, construction workers, and beggars etc. During Covid-19 we have established a kitchen to provide nutritious meals in different parts to support the people. During that time we supported 3lakh children with cooked meals.
